Factors Associated with Care Seeking From Physicians, Physical Therapists, or Chiropractors by Persons with Spinal Pain: A Population-Based Study

  • This study discusses where the general population is going first for their healthcare questions, specifically related to low back and neck pain.  The results and discussion show that many people are not aware of the benefits and options provided by physical therapists as well as the ability for direct access to physical therapists.  Going directly to your local physical therapist, bypassing your general practitioner can reduce the overall healthcare costs and helps you to start on the solution quicker.  If your physical therapist performs a thorough evaluation and determines that you would benefit from a consult by your medical doctor, it is their responsibility to refer you up the chain.


 Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL): why females are more prone to injury than males

  • Every year in the US there is a 1/3,000 incidence rate of Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury.  The group that is most susceptible to this type of injury consists of 15-25 year olds who participate in sports that involve pivoting and cutting.  Studies have shown that within this age group females are at least three (3) times as likely to sustain an ACL injury as compared to their male counterparts.  There are a multitude of hypothetical culprits for this disparity.  To learn more behind the possible causes of ACL injury prevalence in women, please click the link above to view the full article by Jaclyn Chan, B.S.
