Learn how to reduce pain and resume an active life.

Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP) occurs when the muscles and ligaments that support the pelvic organs weaken which cause the organs to be displaced. Prolapse of any kind can cause discomfort and limit quality of life. Because a prolapse involves ligament and muscle weakening, some can avoid surgical correction with strengthening of the pelvic floor. If surgery is necessary, physical therapy can improve post-surgical outcomes. Ask your doctor if conservative management is an option.

Research has concluded that the use of pelvic floor training, in an outpatient setting, may reduce the severity of mild to moderate prolapse. (Hagen S, Stark D, Maher C, Adams EJ. Conservative management of pelvic organ prolapse in women. Cochrane Database Syst Rev. 2008. )
